Research: Results of Simulator' Algorithms

Research result after writting Algorithms :


Simulator are designed to study the behavior pattern of different policies under similar conditions and for a particular set of logical addresses generated randomly. A logical address is a combination of page number and page offset. From this, only the page number is of particular interest because once a page is in the memory, any reference to any offset can be satisfied without any further botheration. Thus the page numbers and number of page faults are the central point of consideration.After writting algorithms the Figure 1 presented next is the main user interface for the simulator. This interface is used to run other simulators also.


there are different buttons to perform various tasks related to the analysis of page-replacement policies. At the very first step, only the interface for generating the reference string is enabled. On executing it, a random list of 10000 logical addresses each consisting of page number and page offset is generated. The best way to compare the results of different policies is to present them in the form of a table depicting the results in the form of rows and columns. On executing the option of simulator named 'Page-Faults', the screen appears in which the input is provided in the form of number of page frames of actual physical memory. Then for this number of frames the simulator mimics the behavior of a real operating system and executes the simulators for various policies producing the tabular  results . The simulator was run for 10000 times. Each time, a total of 10000 page references (Reference string) were generated. The numbers of page faults under different policies have been entered in the grid. During each run, the number of frames and the reference string were generated randomly. The modules have been executed and the page faults produced by each policy were calculated.
